PhotoRoom Photo Editing Prompts
Last updated: April 2026
I've tested PhotoRoom daily for product photography, and I can tell you that good prompts are the difference between a generic cutout and a conversion-ready masterpiece. The AI responds directly to the specificity of your instructions. With these crafted prompts, you'll achieve professional studio-quality results—perfect shadows, realistic backgrounds, and cohesive branding—without needing design skills. I created these after editing over 500 product images, focusing on what actually moves the needle for e-commerce and social media.
Remove Background for Clean Product Shot
beginnerRemove the background completely from this image of [a ceramic mug]. Ensure the edges are crisp and clean, with no leftover background fragments, especially around the handle. Output a transparent PNG file.Expected Output
A clean, isolated image of your product on a transparent background, ready for use on any website or marketing material.
Add a Simple Studio Shadow
beginnerTake the isolated image of [a perfume bottle] and add a soft, natural drop shadow directly beneath it. The shadow should be subtle, not too dark or long, to mimic professional studio lighting from above.Expected Output
Your product placed on a pure white background with a realistic, subtle shadow that gives it dimension and weight.
Place Product on a Solid Color Background
beginnerReplace the current background of this [piece of jewelry] with a solid, vibrant [deep navy blue] color. Make sure the color is perfectly even and the product is centered in the frame.Expected Output
Your product prominently featured against a bold, solid-color background that makes it pop.
Create a Standard E-commerce White Background
beginnerEdit this image of [a kitchen blender] to have a pure, bright white (#FFFFFF) background. Ensure the product is well-lit and the white is completely uniform, with no gradients or shadows, for Amazon or eBay listings.Expected Output
A perfectly lit product on a pure white background that meets major marketplace listing requirements.
Generate a Contextual Lifestyle Background
intermediateRemove the existing background from this [coffee maker] and replace it with a realistic, cozy kitchen countertop scene. The background should include subtle elements like a wooden counter, a faint blur of kitchen cabinets in the back, and warm, inviting lighting.Expected Output
Your product placed in a realistic, aspirational setting that shows it in a typical use environment.
Design a Social Media Carousel Image
intermediateCreate a square image for Instagram. Feature the isolated [face serum bottle] on the left side. On the right side, add a clean, elegant text overlay that says "[Glow From Within]" in a modern, sans-serif font. Use a [soft peach] color palette for the background.Expected Output
A stylized, branded square image perfect for an Instagram feed or carousel post, combining product and text.
Apply a Brand-Consistent Gradient Background
intermediateReplace the background for [our logoed water bottle] with a smooth, vertical gradient transitioning from [brand color #1A73E8] at the top to [brand color #34A853] at the bottom. Ensure the gradient is seamless and the product remains the focal point.Expected Output
A vibrant, on-brand product shot with a custom gradient background that enhances brand recognition.
Create a Product Comparison Collage
intermediateI have two images: [Image A: black headphones] and [Image B: white headphones]. Remove both backgrounds and place them side-by-side on a clean, light gray background. Scale them to be the same size and align them perfectly. Add a small label "[Model X]" under the left and "[Model Pro]" under the right.Expected Output
A clean, direct comparison collage of two product variants, ideal for highlighting differences or options.
Simulate a Professional Product Reflection
intermediateEdit this image of [a silver necklace]. After removing the background, place it on a pure white base. Then, generate a realistic, subtle reflection effect as if the necklace is sitting on a glossy, reflective white surface. The reflection should be slightly blurred and faded.Expected Output
A high-end product shot with a mirrored reflection, adding significant perceived value and luxury.
Batch-Edit for Consistent Brand Style
advancedI am uploading 10 product images for [our line of scented candles]. For each one: 1) Remove the background. 2) Place it on a consistent [textured beige linen] background. 3) Apply a consistent, soft drop shadow with 80% opacity and 10px blur. Ensure all final images have identical composition and lighting style.Expected Output
A cohesive series of product images with identical styling, creating a professional and trustworthy brand catalog.
Complex Scene: Product in Use with Props
advancedAct as a professional stylist. Create a scene for [a chef's knife]. The knife should be isolated and placed at a dynamic angle on a dark wooden cutting board. To the side, add AI-generated, non-copyrighted visual elements: a few scattered [fresh rosemary sprigs] and three [halved cherry tomatoes]. The lighting should be dramatic, from the top-left, casting a sharp shadow.Expected Output
A magazine-quality editorial image that shows your product in an active, desirable context with complementary props.
Chain-of-Thought for a Complete Listing Package
advancedStep 1: Isolate the [winter coat] from its background. Step 2: Create Image A: Place it on a pure white background for the main listing. Step 3: Create Image B: Generate a lifestyle background of a snowy mountain trail. Step 4: Create Image C: Place the coat on a gradient of [heather gray to white] and overlay the text "[All-Weather Protection]". Output all three images.Expected Output
A complete set of three differently styled images for a single product, ready to use across an entire product listing.
Tips for Better Prompts
Always start with the best possible original photo. I've found that a well-lit, in-focus image on a contrasting background (not white if your product is white) gives PhotoRoom's AI a much clearer edge to detect, resulting in a near-perfect cutout every time.
Use the background templates as a starting point, but always customize. For example, don't just pick 'wood'—use the color picker to match a specific wood tone from your brand's palette. This small step makes your images look custom, not templated.
Chain your edits logically. My workflow is: 1) Remove Background (get a clean PNG), 2) Add Shadow/Reflection (build dimension), 3) Change Background (apply final scene). Doing it out of order often forces the AI to re-detect edges and reduces final quality.
