How to Use Figma AI for Presentations

Step 1: Set Up Your Presentation Frame and Enable AI Features

First, open Figma and create a new file. I always start by setting my frame dimensions—click the 'Frame' tool in the toolbar or press 'F', then select 'Presentation' from the right panel's preset sizes (1920x1080 is standard). With your frame selected, go to the right sidebar and ensure you're on the 'Design' tab. Look for the AI features indicator—if you don't see AI options, check that you're on a paid plan (Starter plan works) and that AI features are enabled in your account settings. Step 3: Populate Slides with AI-Generated Text Content

Now for the magic—AI text generation. Click on any text placeholder in your slides (like 'Main Title' on slide 1). With the text layer selected, you'll see a sparkle icon (✨) appear in the right panel's Text section. Click it and select 'Write with AI'. A dialog opens—here's where I input my presentation topic. For example, if presenting about 'Sustainable AI in 2026', I'd type 'Generate a compelling presentation title about sustainable artificial intelligence trends for 2026'. Hit Enter and choose from 3 options. Repeat this for all text elements: subtitles, bullet points (prompt: '3 concise bullet points about AI energy efficiency'), body text, and even speaker notes. For agenda items, select all 5 text layers and use 'Write with AI' with '5 agenda items for sustainable AI presentation'.

Step 4: Create Custom Icons and Visuals with AI Image Generation

Figma AI's image generation is perfect for presentation visuals. Select any image placeholder in your slides (the gray rectangles in your AI layouts). In the right panel's Design tab, click the new 'AI Image' button (looks like a magic wand over an image). Here's my favorite part—describe exactly what icon or illustration you need. For our sustainable AI example, I'd type 'minimal line icon of green leaf with circuit pattern, white background, flat design'. Generate 4 options and pick the best. Need data visualization? Create a new frame within your slide and prompt 'bar chart showing AI energy consumption reduction from 2023 to 2026, clean business style'. Remember to use consistent style keywords like 'minimal', 'flat design', or 'corporate illustration' across all slides. Resize and position these AI images to fit your layout.

Step 5: Apply Consistent Branding with AI Color and Style Suggestions

Consistency makes presentations professional. Select your first slide's background, then go to the right panel's Fill section. Click the color picker, then look for the 'AI Suggestions' tab. Here, input your brand colors or theme—for example, type 'sustainable technology color palette with greens and blues'. Figma AI will suggest complementary colors. Apply the primary color to backgrounds, secondary to accents. Next, select all text layers across multiple slides by Shift-clicking, then use the Text panel's AI suggestions for font pairing—prompt 'modern sans-serif font pair for tech presentation'. Figma AI will suggest 2-3 font combinations with size ratios. Finally, use the 'Selection colors' feature: select multiple elements, right-click, choose 'Selection colors', and let AI suggest harmonious color variations for different slide types.

Step 6: Refine Transitions and Visual Hierarchy with AI Spacing

Polish separates good presentations from great ones. Select all elements on a crowded slide and use the new 'Auto layout' AI enhancement: right-click, choose 'Add auto layout', then click the AI icon that appears in the Auto layout panel. Describe your hierarchy need—'space items evenly with emphasis on headline'—and watch AI adjust padding and spacing. For slide transitions, enable Presentation Mode (Shift+P) and test flow. Notice awkward jumps?
